About Randa
I received a Master’s degree in Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling from Portland State University. My clinical training and experience has focused on individual and couples counseling. I have a background in both mediation and counseling, as well as advanced training in Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy.
I bring an understanding of Eastern spirituality to my work with people, drawing from meditation practice and study of different spiritual philosophies and traditions. I am also a student of body-centered practices, including yoga, qigong, and breath work. These help me to see and understand the whole person–body, mind, and spirit. Facilitating clients to reach greater states of calm, depth, and awareness is something I enjoy doing.
I also have Master’s degrees in Environmental Studies and Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon, and previously worked as a project and program manager in the environmental, social service planning, and public involvement fields in San Francisco, California and communities throughout Oregon. This work helped me to understand the range of human experiences and challenges. My undergraduate degree is from the University of California at Berkeley, where I studied the social dimensions of Environmental Science.
I value a multicultural perspective. I have traveled in India, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Egypt, and Israel. I grew up in the U.S., but have Egyptian heritage on my father’s side (my mother is American). My name, Randa, is actually an Arabic name, although it is pronounced like the name Rhonda.
I have a special passion for helping people create healthier relationships, including with ourselves, our partners and loved ones, community, nature, spirit, and the world around us. I have enjoyed the challenges and rewards of a long-term committed relationship with my husband, who I have been with since 1997. This relationship has taught me so much and continues to help me grow as a person. I also enjoy learning and growing as a parent to my two sons, born September 2009 and October 2013
